01 · What we do

What we do for Copilot

Copilot is Microsoft's AI layer across the entire product stack: Bing, Edge, Windows, Microsoft 365, and increasingly inside enterprise tooling. Winning Copilot means winning Bing's index plus the Microsoft Graph layer. We tune your presence in both — Bing's web crawl and the structured data Microsoft uses to ground answers for enterprise users.

02 · Why it matters

Why showing up here is non-negotiable

Copilot's enterprise distribution is unmatched. Every Microsoft 365 user — and there are 400+ million paid seats — gets Copilot for work-context queries. When a sales team asks Copilot 'who are the top three vendors for [your category]?', the answer pulls from Bing plus the customer's tenant data. Being in the Bing answer is the only externally-controllable lever, and it's a high-leverage one.

03 · What's different

Why Copilot is different from the others

Copilot was the first major AI assistant grounded in live search — it predates ChatGPT Search. That makes it the most retrieval-mature of the major engines. It's also the most visibly-cited: every answer comes with footnoted links and image cards. The Bing-vs-Google split matters here: Bing's index has different blind spots than Google's, so optimizing only for Google leaves Copilot wins on the table.

04 · How it works under the hood

The mechanics of Copilot

If you want to win Copilot you need to know how it actually picks what to say. Here's the short version of what's happening every time a user types a prompt.

  1. 01

    Bing-powered retrieval

Copilot calls Bing search for almost every query. Ranking in Bing is the prerequisite. Bing's algorithm weighs different signals than Google — IndexNow submissions, Bing Webmaster Tools, and Bing-specific schema all matter.

  2. 02

    Multi-source synthesis

Copilot pulls from 3 to 6 sources per answer and synthesizes across them. The cited sources appear as numbered footnotes plus a 'Learn more' panel.

  3. 03

    Edge and Windows integration

Copilot in Edge can read the current page. Copilot in Windows can read open documents (with permission). That means well-structured content gets re-cited inside the user's own workflow.

  4. 04

    Microsoft 365 grounding

Inside enterprise Copilot, answers blend public Bing results with the user's tenant data via Microsoft Graph. External brand visibility still matters because the Bing layer is the answer's anchor when tenant data is thin.

  5. 05

    Refresh cadence

Live retrieval; near-real-time. IndexNow submission gets Bing to recrawl within minutes, which is faster than Google's typical cadence.

05 · The playbook

What we actually optimize for Copilot

No silver bullets. These are the levers that move the needle in Copilot specifically, ranked by what tends to matter most for our clients.

  • Bing Webmaster Tools configuration and IndexNow submission
  • Bing-specific schema (Microsoft favors Schema.org Organization + LocalBusiness)
  • Edge browser readability — clean DOM, no aggressive JS gating
  • Press and review coverage on sites Bing indexes well (Bing weighs different domains than Google)
  • Image and video schema — Copilot surfaces visual cards more aggressively than competitors
